International Federation of the Red Cross and the Red Crescent (IFRC)

The International Federation of the Red Cross and the Red Crescent Societies (IFCR) it's a nongovernamental organization that has no political, racial or religious nature, and represents all the National Societies. The Secretariat of the Federation is in Geneva, although it has over 60 delegations strategically located worldwide to provide support.

Its functions are:

  • Organizing and coordinating international disaster response activities, supporting the actions of the National Societies in the affected country.
  • Encourage the creation of new National Societies and assist them in developing their structures and programs.

The programs developed by the IFRC will be based on the 2020 Strategy for the period from 2010 to 2020, which has the following strategic objectives:

  • Saving lifes.
  • Protecting livelihoods.
  • Supporting the recovery after disasters and crisis (every year, the Red Cross assists an average of 30 million people, between refugees and victims of natural disasters).
  • Promoting social inclusion.
  • Promoting a culture of nonviolence and peace..

The strategic objectives of the IFRC are part of the challenges that the International Movement of the Red Cross and the Red Crescent has set      in its entirety and are related to the following phenomena: climate change, food security, immigration, public health and respect for International Humanitarian Law.
